Sublime Homes is bringing brass back in its latest model home in St. John, Indiana. Not the bright, brilliant and somewhat gaudy finish of polished brass from the 80s that frequently comes to mind, but softer hues like aged, satin or antique brass that give rooms a warm feeling. The key to using brass in your home without overwhelming your space is to treat the brass elements as an accessory to the space. Because they are shiny, reflective components, it is important to be mindful of the other fixtures and fittings alongside of them. Brass comes in many different finishes and each type of brass has a unique feel. An aged brass finish comes off slightly brushed and almost uneven with a darkened patina and a naturally vintage look, while satin brass can be considered the “modern brass alternative.” It stems from the Victorian Era and offers a more refined take on the rustic look of unfinished brass. The antique brass finish closely resembles the look of natural brass with hints of highlighting occasionally peeking through, revealing various tone contrast, without the blindingly reflective quality of polished brass. An easy way to start using brass in your home is to replace your water fixtures. Consider testing the waters with fixtures that are easy to replace, making it less of a commitment. In addition to faucets, lighting and cabinet hardware are easy updates to incorporate brass. As shown in the photo below, another way to introduce the metal without overdoing it is by bringing in metal trims. It was important that the accent wall of tile was the focal point and nothing else. By adding the sleek metal edge trim along the shower bench, the large, monochromatic tiles were broken up, adding a hint of luster to work in harmony with the accent wall and plumbing fixtures. Brass lighting can be found just about everywhere these days. Try bringing in a dramatic chandelier for the kitchen island or an artistic piece for the dining room. If you have fallen in love with the idea of having brass add warmth and luxury to your home, consider using brass accents to create a glam spot. Using brass gilded stone backsplash tile adds warmth and a touch of elegance to the kitchen. The gold metallic grout helps shape the arabesque baroque tile. Everyone may not be as interested in covering their rooms in wall-to-wall brass, but it is well-suited for accent pieces, fixtures, lights and other smaller decor items. Brass adds a luxurious touch to any home.
It is clear that brass is back!

This November, Sublime Homes has urged our homeowners, our social media followers, and our website visitors to make bold choices in their homes, and in their lives. Our blogs and social media have all pointed to how much fun you will have as you design a space that is bold and beautiful, and how much joy that newly imagined space will bring you. As we have urged you to dare to be different, we have decided to make some bold choices for ourselves. As of today, November 29, 2016, Sublime Homes is proud to unveil our new website, better designed for functionality and ascetics.
Choosing to redesign your home- and in our case Sublime Homes’ digital home- is daunting but exhilarating, and results in a space tailored to your style and your life. We have chosen to redesign our website because we want to provide an amazing experience to all of our homeowners and website visitors. We want every aspect of your interactions with Sublime Homes to affirm your desire for a beautiful new home, and hope that our new website reflects our values of clean and stunning design. Our hopes for our new website are that it makes it easier for first time visitors to find the information they need about Sublime Homes, that returning visitors can find the articles they love to read, and that our homeowners can let us know how we did and get further inspiration for their new home. At Sublime Homes, we are here to make your dream home a reality. We have a passion for quality and beauty, and want to make it as easy as possible for you to move into your new home. Designing a new home should be an exciting time in your life and/or the life of your family. You get the chance to design a living space that is customized to your wishlist. Sometimes, stages in the design/build process can seem a bit stressful. You're creating a space that you want to look beautiful as well as being functional for the all the people living in your home. As you design your new construction home, Sublime Homes has a talented team of designers who will help guide your design decisions from start to finish. We have over eight floor plans designed with aesthetics and functionality to fit every lifestyle. Beyond those floor plans, we also offer the ability to customize every plan. This month, Sublime Homes is celebrating bold designs in the home. We believe that you can create a home that forms the foundation for living an inspired life by reflecting your unique design style. The Jacklyn model- Sublime Homes’ Model Home of the Month- embraces our passion for creating new homes that cannot be imitated. With the Jacklyn model, we created a home that inspires awe. The open floor plan fills with light, creating an airy feeling that draws eyes upward to the second story cat walk, reminiscent of Juliet’s balcony. Your home is more than the place you live in. Your home is your canvas, where you can tell the story of your life. When you make bold decision’s for your home, you are showcasing who you are, so dare to be different. ![]() Think about the last home you walked into, and thought, “wow.” If that home was not your home, you can create a space that wows at any budget and any level of time commitment. You and your family deserve a home that is more than the place you happen to live in, and making bold choices with your design and decor can transform it into a space that will make you go, “wow” every time you walk in the door. Making bold choices in your home does not mean you have to totally remodel your home, hire a decorator, or spend a lot of money. If you are on a budget or do not have the time to invest in totally redoing your house, you can still create a striking space. A bold design choice can be as simple as deciding to use live plants as decorative objects in your living spaces and bathrooms. Deciding to buy the funky pillows you love and creating an accent wall to match updates a lifeless room and incorporates objects you love. Getting rid of clutter and opting for monochromatic color pallets can create a beautiful look and make your daily routine simpler. Simply taking a little bit of time to display things you love, and letting your style filter onto the fabric of your home makes your home feel more personalized and unique. If you have some budget for remolding, creating a focal wall by adding a fireplace is a great way to make a bold statement without resorting to busting down walls. Dramatic fireplaces add texture to painted walls and can give traditionally designed rooms an added sense of depth. Gathering around a fire during chilly months is also a fun way to spend time together as a family and stay warm. If you are starting the process of building a new home, it is easy to incorporate bold design choices in the layout of your home. If your family has avid readers, book nooks always add grace to a home. Open floor plans let rooms flow into each other, and prevent spaces from feeling cramped. Think about how you live, what you need from your home, and what you have dreamed about having in a home. Trends are helpful in figuring out how you can incorporate something different into a design, but frequently become overused and quickly look dated. Bold design combines the best of your own style, classic tenants of design, and the fun aspects of trends to create memorable spaces that show who you are. |
