Our design team will showcase, using video, a story about our homes as it relates to design advice, material selections, details and almost anything in between.
Welcome to Episode #1 of This Sublime House. I'm Jackie Graniczny, Design Director for Sublime Homes. For our first episode of This Sublime House, I will take you inside the Elizabeth Model in our Rose Garden community in St. John, Indiana.
When designing our models, I am always on a mission to be fashion-forward and to make an everlasting impression. This was achieved by many design details and working with our valued vendors and suppliers, such as the Tile Shop and Crest Lighting for some of the showstopper pieces that you find in this home. I hope you enjoy this video and I look forward to sharing many more with you!

By definition the word build means to construct something over a period of time, to incorporate (something) and make it a permanent part of.
Sublime Homes is a builder, we follow by definition the meaning of the word--we put parts or material together over a period of time to construct something. As a builder; however, we do something more than construct a physical structure, we build people’s dreams, we are creators of communities, of relationships.
This is something that is ever present within our community the Rose Garden. A little more than a year ago, this 22-acre parcel of land was just that. It was open land, as the developer, we developed the plan for the community. We curated the home plans, we worked to keep as much of the natural area as possible as part of the landscape . Sublime worked to create what will be upon completion 22 houses, a community of people, families taking our houses and turning them into homes. With the Rose Garden and other communities we build in we’ve worked hard to connect with our clients in a way that is more than transactional--it’s personal.
These relationships are built quickly or over years. Some of our clients hop right on board and are ready immediately for us to build their dreams, for some the process is longer, or the time is not right and we have more time to learn about one another.
You’ll always remember your first--the Bandyk family was my first qualified “lead” when I came on board as Sublime’s Sales & Marketing Director. Not only were they my first qualified lead, they were also one of our first families to want to live in our Rose Garden community and lock in their lot. Earlier this month, our team celebrated with their family as we broke ground on their homesite. After our ceremony, they shared with me a story that their daughter wrote.
As the Sales & Marketing director, the relationship building is my favorite part. Well, maybe it's the relationship building and final reveal day. Maybe it’s the relationship building, final reveal day and the day we come together and break ground on the house. Whatever part is my favorite, the best feeling is the excitement our clients have as they embark on this building journey.
When our clients work with Sublime Homes, not only are they getting a quality built home, but they are first owners, part of the foundation in which the community will grow together, as owners. It is thrilling to watch foundation after foundation being poured, wood becoming walls, houses becoming homes, land becoming a community.
Our team loves what our trades have helped us to build, we are uplifted when we think about how our homes will bring families and communities together for years to come.
Will your family be next?

Guest Post by: Carmen Huizenga, Interior Designer at DeYoung Interiors
It is always a pleasure to share these pages with like-minded businesses and a few months ago when we partnered with DeYoung Interior’s, interior design team to help us stage our completed Colette Model, we felt it only fitting for them to tell our readers about the business and how they go about creating dynamic spaces for their homeowners. Did you know that DeYoung Interiors is a family owned business in Northwest Indiana and dealer in fine furniture since 1928 as well as they offer a full design center equipped with educated and experienced designers? They take pride in being able to help each client design a beautiful space no matter their budget. With so many great brands, there is something for everyone. So when DeYoung Interiors accepted our invitation to be a featured writer on our blog and share their wisdom with our readers, we were certainly excited.
Without further ado, we present you with this bit of design wisdom from Carmen Huizenga, Interior Designer at DeYoung Interiors.
DESIGNING DYNAMIC DWELLINGS
As a designer at DeYoung’s, one major aspect of my job is not only helping customers in store, but also decorating model homes. When we are asked to decorate models, it is so important to get the design right because it has such a powerful influence on potential buyers. The aesthetic of the model home is what makes it feel like it could be a home for your family.
While the finishes of a home are important to the overall aesthetic, the furniture and accessories really give a home it’s overall feeling. “For us, it is all about following the coloring and feeling of the space,” fellow designer Margi Swets said. As a designer, she continues, "the paint, granite, and lighting will affect the style we will chose to go with. When picking out furniture and accessories, balance is very important."
When Margi and I walk through a home for the first time, we get an overall feel for the space, and then create a vision with a base piece to start the design from. In the Colette Model, a large-scale peacock piece of artwork gave us the inspiration to continue the glamorous, but stately vision the Sublime builders had. For a home like The Colette, choosing bigger and more grand pieces keeps the large open concept feeling like a home.
"As a designer, the paint, granite, and lighting will affect the style we will chose to go with. When picking out furniture and accessories, balance is very important."
In The Colette Model, grandeur was the overall feeling. When you walk into this beautiful home in St. John, Indiana, the design and style of the home could easily take your breath away. Margi goes on to add, “that because of the ceiling's height and the detail in them, we chose art and lamps that will draw your eye up, accentuating the ceilings.” This Colette Model also offers an open concept floor plan, making it important to be sure each room flows effortlessly from one to the other. Rugs are also a huge help in defining a space in an open concept floor plan.
When we think of decorating a home for someone, we don’t always know what their style will entail. With this home, it was very different from some of the other homes we’ve done previously. For us, we take that as a challenge to think of it not just as a showpiece home, but a home that any family could envision as their own.
“I believe that anybody can spend their money anywhere. We have to work hard to earn it by taking care of our customers,” owner John DeYoung states. “We’re appreciative of every dollar spent here and we’re blessed to be in the business and grateful for our customers.” He also says that the furniture DeYoung’s sells is a real value for the quality that it is and our services are “second to none.” DeYoung Interiors is self-sufficient with its own delivery crews, warehousing, and service department. “It keeps coming back to us every time we take care of someone.”
About the Business:
You’ve found your dream home, you’ve checked the price, it’s in the budget. You call the home builder to set an appointment, come in for the appointment only to learn that your dream home is suddenly out of reach with all the “upgrades” that you’d like to have in your new home. You ask yourself… “there has to be a better way to shop for a home and to know up front what the house is going to cost.” There are always going to be some extras, but overall—you want to know that above the price of the lot, it will cost $X price to build my dream home.
Sublime Homes has made home shopping easy in NW Indiana. Many of our homeowners will tell you that the Sublime Homes' standards are upgrades for the rest of the builders in the area. With energy efficient, top of the line, 400 series windows from Andersen, the high-grade allowance for quartz, granite and marble countertops, built to suit custom cabinetry with artesian finishes, pro stainless steel appliances including a 19 Cu. Ft All Refrigerator and Freezer all as standards in our homes. We are proud to be able to create a beautiful, quality home at what we call our base price.
What does your sublime home come with? Below are ten standards that you can anticipate in your dream home.

Dream it. Build it. Love it.
Let’s be honest with ourselves,… Who wants a squeaky floor? Yes! No one does and Sublime Homes does everything in order to avoid squeaky floors today and for tomorrow.
So there is the assumption that squeaky floors only happen to older homes. Not necessarily!
Ok let’s say that your builder followed minimum code requirements on the subfloor. That sounds great right? Well before you go on and celebrate, give that new home some time and soon enough it will entertain you and your family with that desired squeaky sound. Of course it may be beneficial if you would like to use is at a security system, there would be no sneaking in or out of that home!
A recap to Sublime’s November Newsletter)
A recap to the Sublime Homes November Newsletter (apologies to our readers, as the image was distorted when sent). Proper installation of the subfloor is key! Following are the steps Sublime Homes followed in order to enforce quality subfloors in which will prevent future issues, such as squeaky floors.
1. Bostik adhesive is placed on top of the 2” x 12” prior to the AdvanTech plywood sheet is placed above. The cross bridging is spaced an inch apart to avoid friction, which would help avoid any future sounds.
2. After the precise engagement of the tongue and groove profile of AdvanTech plywood, the plywood will be enforced methodically with nails. We ensure that those nails do indeed make it to the lumber underneath, as we want to ensure that those nails are holding down the subfloor.
3. Although nails are placed to ensure that the subfloor is being held down, screws were then added to secure that with time the subfloor does not become loose with movement.
Not only did Sublime follow all the above steps in order to provide quality subfloors, but it was also using AdvanTech Engineered Plywood (the real deal when it comes to plywood). The qualities that this plywood sheet offers are as follows:

As Sublime Homes continues to keep up with the new products that offer long lasting benefits to their product, some of the above info has been replaced by today’s top technology. Going forward Sublime Homes will substitute the nails and screws with “Paslode tetraGRIP”, drives like a nail, holds like a screw! Paslode tetraGRIP will contribute to halt any potential to squeaky floors. Check out this video to see all the great benefits of this remarkable product that your Sublime home will have!
